Romania's capital and largest city, Bucharest, has transformed itself from a 16th century village-like town at the outskirts of the Ottoman Empire to the splendid city known as "the little Paris of the East / Balkans" in early 1900's. The tour will take us on the enchanting Victoriei Avenue filled with beautiful architectural buildings from "La Belle Epoque" including the iconic Romanian Athenaeum, the former Royal Palace nowadays the National Art Museum, the legendary Grand Hotel Continental and the impressive CEC Palace among others. The charming architecture of "La Belle Epoque" was inspired especially from France, a country seen by the Romanians of that time as a beacon of culture worthy to emulate, but also from other west European states, all of these starting to happen with 1866, when the Hohenzollern Royal family was invited to come and rule the young Romanian nation.
