Mark takes you his boat through the Eastern Harbour District with its modern architecture and old houseboats. He gets a friend to drive so he can concentrate on camerawork and talking about what is going by. This part of Amsterdam was created from water in the late 1800s and early 1900s and was largely made up of warehouses and train junctions. It has been redeveloped in phases since the 1980s but the most interesting and attractive phase was the most recent. Buildings have been designed and planned with sustainability in mind as well as amenity for the residents. Mark shows and explains various architectural and design elements. There are really great views from the water and a couple of eye catching modern bridges, very popular with local kids for jumping into the water in the summer.
