About the tour

Florence's dome: "high above the skies, wide to cover all Tuscan people with its shadow" The Piggy Market - or as locals would call it, Il Mercato del Porcellino – will be our starting point, a central hub that has been there for centuries when Florence was famous across Europe for the quality of its embroidered silk and wool items. Piazza della Repubblica, Florence’s very heart showcases instead the different layers of the historical centre with many secrets to be revealed, from the Roman Age to the splendour of the Renaissance. Still today it is one of those places where people meet at any time of the day, Eli loves referring to it as Florence’s bellybutton! As we continue our walk we’ll unveil the secrets about the construction of the magnificent Cathedral or Duomo, overlapping a century and half, made possible by the vision of the city government and the generosity of the local families and guilds. To name one above all, the Medicis, that inspired books movies and lately a tv series.

Meet your local guide

Eli

Born and bred in Tuscany, like the majority of the locals she is very blunt! After working in tourism for several years she found her true vocation in being a tour guide, she often says "it's the only job that I could do for 18 years or more" She is very energetic and curious, loves meeting and interacting with different people as well as travelling the world. She has a very strong voice as she sang during her high school years and that's when the passion for opera started. Still there is something she can't resist too ... sweets and particularly gelato, something she would enjoy with her guests after a tour!

Eli has been guiding since Jul 2002

Eli gives just the right mix of historical and contemporary information and she delivers it with a lovely personality. This was my second tour today with her and I will do another one on Sunday because Florence is one of my favourite places and it is wonderful to “be there” during this pandemic even though I am at home in Canada. Thank you for doing this at this strange and challenging time in our world.
