About the tour

In this tour, we will go off the beaten tracks to explore a part of the 5th arrondissement (district) that has a lot to offer even if is often missed by the visitors. Starting Place de la Contrescarpe, we will walk down the Mouffetard street, one of the oldest in Paris and discover its great food stores, restaurants and stories such as the one of a huge treasure of gold coins found in 1938. Then Florent will take you to one of his favorite place in Paris, the Jardin des Plantes, the oldest botanic garden of Paris founded in 1626 which contain remarkable plants, buildings and greenhouses. The next step will be the oldest building in Paris, totally hidden from the streets: the Roman arenas of Lutetia. Paris was founded by the Romans in 51 BC under the name Lutetia and, at the time, the city had one of the largest arena of Gaul which could contain more than 15000 people! We will hear the stories of the gladiators and how people lived at the time of the Romans. We will see how this place, thank to Victor Hugo amongst others, was miraculously preserved and saved from destruction in the 1880’s. Follow your guide to discover an unseen Paris!

Florent

It's an understatement to say Florent knows Paris. Born in this wonderful city, Florent says he confidently knows every nook and cranny. Having completed over 2000 tours, we believe him. He's a self-declared history, art, and archaeology fan. What he loves most is sharing the best parts (and secrets) of Paris with you! “In French, if you add two letters to Paris, it becomes Paradis (Paradise in English)” he laughs. And paradise, it truly is. Be it exploring Paris' gastronomical delights or catching an auction, walking along the River Seine (which Florent gallantly swam), exploring spots where Hemingway lived or its sprawling gardens, Florent takes you on an exciting tour through his favorite city. “I love sharing my discoveries, explaining the boisterous history of Paris and showing places that are very hard to find otherwise, and of course getting to know new people every day!” Florent says.
