Travel back in time with Stephan in this tour to learn about Jewish history in Amsterdam. Starting in the 16th century, Amsterdam became a safe place for Jewish families fleeing from Southern and Eastern Europe. Our journey starts in the historic Jewish Quarter. Together, we will explore the rest of the old Jewish Quarter. We will pass the two Amsterdam Synagogues, the city’s oldest park, my favourite 'Brooklyn like' street in Amsterdam, the Hortus Botanicus and the famous Jewish Memorial. You’ll also discover several hidden gems along the canals, all the while telling stories that will make history feel within arm’s reach.
Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. He found out that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a host, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests, the hidden gems in Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of Amsterdam.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Amsterdam. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!
While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.
We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.
Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.
Reserve your spot by selecting a time to book. Once done, you’ll be able to see your reservations on your Trips page and we’ll send you an email confirmation with a link to join the tour.
