About the tour

This tour may not be for everyone, as it takes us to one of Berlin's most legendary cemeteries. We start our 40 minute tour outside the building where the legendary Comedian Harmonists were founded back in 1928, and who faced dire persecution under the Nazis due to the fact that 3 of their 6 members were Jewish. From there, it's just a short stroll to the hauntingly charming little cemetery where not only legends like the world's most famous fashion photographer Helmut Newton, the composer Ferruccio Busoni, and Marlene Dietrich - no less! - found their final resting place, but also lesser known artists like Jeannne Mammen and the writer and screenwriter Dinah Nelken. It's a truly memorable experience!

Berlin’s stunning landscape can stupefy you. Home to over 200 parks, forests and green spaces, and over a hundred lakes - replete with beautiful lidos and sandy beaches - it’s one of the greenest cities in the world. Martin helps you discover all this, and more! Having experienced the fall of The Wall first hand, Martin lived abroad between 1994 and 2010 and experienced a potpourri of different cultures. At university, he explored German history and studied German-Jewish exile organizations that emerged as a result of the rise to power by the Nazis. Following his graduation, he was then offered to contribute to the exhibition “Eichmann on Trial”, organized by Berlin’s Topography of Terror. This led Martin back to Berlin, and he re-discovered the city he had left long ago. Fascinated by Berlin’s total make-over, he decided to turn his rekindled fascination with Berlin into his profession. Since then, his tours have been peppered with adventures and exciting stories, ranging from European cultures to celebrities like Marlene Dietrich. “I once gate-crashed the building where David Bowie used to live in Berlin with a customer who was a huge David Bowie fan and ‘bumped’ into a resident who promptly invited us to have coffee!” he says.

Martin has been guiding since May 2011

I enjoyed the historical facts coupled with the personal stories. ( I chose Berlin as our son was made redundant here in UK and accepted work in Berlin, so I'm slowly getting to know the city.) Thanks Martin

I thoroughly recommend !Martin's Tour "Legends Never Die", It was so interesting to see the final resting place of famous Berliners, and also the ordinary Berliners and to hear their stories too. As usual Martin had plenty of information and he presented it beautifully and with heart.

Martin is an excellent tour guide. The weather conditions that he had brave were atrocious. He puts a lot of information into his tours. I always look forward to a tour by Martin.
