About the tour

London’s East End has always had its own special character and distinctiveness. It’s the part of the capital often associated with the city’s swagger, style and cheeky good humour. The neighbourhood is also frequently viewed through the lens of poverty and immigration, Dickensian novels, the exploits of Jack the Ripper and the Blitz which have helped shaped its story. Today this surprising locale is a hotbed of creativity and endeavour, remaining one of the most diverse parts of the metropolis. Our tour takes us through 18th century streets that have survived fire, tumult, racism and Hitler’s bombs and, today, still offer up surprise and delight. Join Mr Londoner, aka broadcaster, writer and former Museum of London director Antony Robbins. We’ll explore the communities that have shaped this special neighbourhood and the challenges tough and enterprising people faced to build a life in a new city.

Very fun tour today - and learned a lot! Love that Antony is a descendant of Kate the Hat! And learning about silk weaving in London way back when :-)
