Sousse is the 3rd largest city of Tunisia and it’s considered as the jewel of the coastline, with over 1.5 million inhabitants and huge beach resorts. The Medina which has been listed by the UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1988, is a typical example of the architecture of the early centuries of Islam in the Maghreb. It encompasses a Kasbah, fortifications and the Great Mosque of Sousse. Today we are taking you to a special journey through the history of the old city of Sousse (The Medina). You will marvel the souks and the huge variety of handicraft but also market places where shops sell spices, frankincense, vegetables and fruits such as the famous Tunisian Deglet Ennour dates.
Mohamed is a Tunisian native who transformed his profound passion for travel and history into a creative and diversified educational career, designing and carrying out multiple archaeological and cultural trips for various institutions such as The Detroit Institute of Art, the Textile Museum, the American Museum of Natural History and the Stanford and Berkeley Alumni Associations. Mohamed has an extensive knowledge of Islamic architecture and Eastern decorative elements, as well as archaeology and classical history. He lectures on ethnographic and anthropological subjects mostly in North and West Africa, focusing on the historical jewels of the countries.

It was a great trip - took me back to over 25 years ago when I was there and the shopping centre where I bought my leather jacket. Hope I can't return one day. Thank you for making Sousse come alive again. K

I wish I could give Mohamed more than 5 stars, I would. We got to speak with the locals. See the sights. Visit the shops...and learn about how this pandemic has affected business directly from the townsmen. Very good overall picture of Sousse.

I really enjoyed Mohamed's tour. He always gives us lots of historical information as well as current cultural and political information. It gave me a tremendous amount of information that I never knew about this region. Excellent presentation!
