About the tour

This tour focuses on the part of Norwich settled by the Normans after the Conquest in 1066. See the fine Norman Castle and the 15th century town hall and hear stories of crime and punishment. Then there's the 1938 City Hall and its narrow escape from Nazi bombs in World War II, along with the vast 15th century Church of St Peter Mancroft. We look at the ancient Great Market and other shopping highlights like the late 19th century Royal Arcade and Jarrold, the city's independent department store, before finishing outside The Forum, Norfolk's main Millennium project.

Meet your local guide

I am a Geordie from the North East of England, but have lived and worked in Norfolk for more than 30 years. I began doing guided tours for the Maids Head Hotel in Norwich in 2013. The hotel is one of the oldest in the country dating back to the the mid 13th century. Then I trained as a City of Norwich Tourist Guide from September 2013 to July 2014 and now run a range of in person tours in Norwich and the Norfolk Broads.

Paul has been guiding since Sep 2013

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Norwich with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Norwich. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.

This was our first tour with you Paul and we loved it. You’re excellent at taking us around your city, telling us interesting things about it and keeping us engaged with history, anecdotes and fun facts. It was great and we hope to see more of you and Norwich. Thank you Paul and thank you VT.
