About the tour

Join Andrea for an unforgettable walk in one of the most iconic places in the world and see why Napoleon called it "the finest drawing room in Europe". St Mark's Square, or Piazza San Marco in Italian, is the most iconic square in Venice and also marks the stop on Andrea's tour "The Beauty and Mystery of Venice". The most famous buildings of the city are concentrated in this area: the Doge’s Palace, the Basilica of San Marco, the Tower Bell, and the Bridge of Sighs. If that's not enough for you, then we will also see Caffè Florian, the oldest Cafè in the world, discover the symbols of the Clock Tower, and learn the story of the two big columns in front of the lagoon!

Meet your local guide

Andrea

Andrea might be one of Venice's most entertaining tour guides. Why do we say that? Well, you don't have to look far to see him jamming out on his guitar singing songs in the Venetian dialect. “I like to introduce myself as a tour guide, a freelance journalist, and a real Venetian (one of the few that has remained),” he says fondly. He loves music and has played with Italy’s most popular reggae singer, and performed in front of a massive crowd of 15,000 people during the carnival at St. Mark’s Square. He tries to mix information, historical facts, and funny quirks about the city into his tours. “There’s a lot about the city that people don’t know. There are words they use that come from Venice (ciao, ghetto, ballot, quarantine), and objects and inventions (the first pair of glasses, the first pocketbook). Even when people write, they use punctuations that were first used in a book here,” he remarks. He likes to think of his tours like a small show - with a bit of music, some rhythm, and sometimes with an experience down the Grand Canal with a gondola. So make sure to have your drinks and snacks ready for your time with Andrea! “I’m so lucky to live in a city like Venice that has so much to offer, above all “under the surface” of the most famous places to visit. I’m eager to know more and more about my city, and I know that people feel my passion in sharing my hometown with them,” Andrea says.

Andrea has been guiding since Dec 2012

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Venice with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 30 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Venice. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.

I had to exit early but what I saw and heard taught me so much. I have been to Venice twice and never noticed the facades of the church let alone the history behind them. I will try to catch another tour with Andrea.
