About the tour

Did you know that all of Lisbon’s downtown has been destroyed by a huge earthquake on the day of All Saints in 1755? We will start our tour at the Commerce Square, gateway of a city turned to the river for centuries, and we will find out how this square is related to the end of monarchy in Portugal, even if it was home to the royal palace way before that. We cannot miss checking out the post-earthquake buildings, meant to be inserted in a new, well organized and functional city, opposite to its former labyrinthic layout. Let us find out what would happen to these buildings if we ever had another earthquake!

Inês

Inês has been a licensed guide in Portugal since 2008. Her mother was a French and Portuguese teacher who fell in love with a Peruvian musician and craftsman in Paris. She considers herself a storyteller with a wide range of interests, from history to gastronomy, growing food in her small garden, hiking in the company of her wonderful dog and dancing. She is currently taking a massage course and learning how to sew! All in all, this means that Inês loves to explore different layers and perspectives of Lisbon, its culture and to share it with others!

Inês has been guiding since Aug 2008

Ines is a fantastic guide, the best so far! Ines is very knowledgeable and informative, very friendly too, always taking time to answer questions and even to walk back to a place on the tour if someone asks to se it again! Full of good advice and interesting history, makes me want to visit the country very much.
