About the tour

In the roman times, Rossio Square was the location of the Roman circus of the city of Olissipo, the former name of Lisbon. We will follow the path of Rossio over the centuries, finding out what it became the Christian occupation - the location of Lisbon's biggest hospital in the Middle Ages and also of the headquarters of the Inquisition. The earthquake of 1755 changed its looks but the square kept its size and memories of the past throughout. Meeting point for European refugees during the II World War, the arrival of foreigners will influence habits and bring a couple of new delicacies into our cafés.

Inês

Inês has been a licensed guide in Portugal since 2008. Her mother was a French and Portuguese teacher who fell in love with a Peruvian musician and craftsman in Paris. She considers herself a storyteller with a wide range of interests, from history to gastronomy, growing food in her small garden, hiking in the company of her wonderful dog and dancing. She is currently taking a massage course and learning how to sew! All in all, this means that Inês loves to explore different layers and perspectives of Lisbon, its culture and to share it with others!

A small scale, cosy tour with not many guests, allowing Ines to chat and answer all our questions, it felt really sociable

Ines is just charming, open and interesting. Knows her history and knows how to share her knowledge most interestingly. She answers all questions is interested in her followers and I can’t wait to do more tours with her. Sadly as we are in Australia we never get her tours at a decent time - 5am to 6 am EST is good or afternoon is also good around 6-8pm EST. Yes we loved her natural manner and felt comfortable being with her.

Thank you Ines. That was brilliant, despite the poor weather! Your English is superb and you kept my interest all the time.
