About the tour

The beautiful Skinny Bridge (Magere Brug in Dutch) is the city's most famous and most popular bridge. It's a drawbridge that spans the Amstel River and was allegedly built by very rich sisters who lived opposite each. They could not be bothered to walk down to the next bridge so had a brigde built for themselves to cross the river. I'd take that with a large pinch of salt but the story does capture the idea of walth that the area was home to. We walk along the Amstel River past many interseting and varied house boats and cross the skinny bridge into the city's canal belt. The Prinsengracht is a great mixture of big and small houses and more exceptionally expensive house boats. We walk down the gorgeous Reguliersgracht with its stone hump backed bridges and varied houses from the 1700s until we turn into the 'Golden Bend'. This is the grandest part of the grand canal belt and where the serously rich lived. We finish around the corner on the Keizersgracht at house of an old Amsterdam family, the Van Loons who now have their house open to the public.

Mark

Mark has been sharing places and stories about Amsterdam, his adopted home, for 10 years now and he is still smitten by the place! He absolutely loves distilling chunks of history into bite-sized bits of fun. The vibrancy of the city takes his breath away, and he loves finding odd little details to share. Live-streaming tours are an exciting adventure as it is possible to open places and areas that are not accessible on in-person tours!

Mark has been guiding since Dec 2011

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Amsterdam with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Amsterdam. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.
