The Belle Époque, French for Beautiful Epoch describes the years between 1880 to 1914, a period characterised by optimism, regional peace, economic prosperity and technological and cultural innovations. Paris, in 1900, host the most popular World Fair of its history. More than 50 millions visitors could discover the magnificent buildings built for it. To celebrate the entry into the new century, new monuments were built, they left a prodigious heritage. In this tour, you’ll discover beautiful buildings built for the Fair such as the Orsay Museum, which hosts today the largest Impressionists paintings collection in the world, which was at the origin a train station. Then, following the Seine river you’ll discover its most beautiful bridge, the Alexander III bridge taking us to the right bank where two wonderful Palaces were built: the Grand Palais and Petit Palais. With a profusion of other temporary buildings with a baroque and eclectic architecture, the 1900 Fair was an hymn to diversity, documents of the time will be shown for you to see the beauty of the architecture of the time. Follow your local guide to discover why this period is now described as the Belle Époque!
It's an understatement to say Florent knows Paris. Born in this wonderful city, Florent says he confidently knows every nook and cranny. Having completed over 2000 tours, we believe him. He's a self-declared history, art, and archaeology fan. What he loves most is sharing the best parts (and secrets) of Paris with you! “In French, if you add two letters to Paris, it becomes Paradis (Paradise in English)” he laughs. And paradise, it truly is. Be it exploring Paris' gastronomical delights or catching an auction, walking along the River Seine (which Florent gallantly swam), exploring spots where Hemingway lived or its sprawling gardens, Florent takes you on an exciting tour through his favorite city. “I love sharing my discoveries, explaining the boisterous history of Paris and showing places that are very hard to find otherwise, and of course getting to know new people every day!” Florent says.
