She is one of the most impressive of all statues in Berlin – the golden Else on top of the victory column. Majestically she looks down the 17th of June street to the Brandenburg gate. But her view went a totally different way once and on this tour you will find out which. We will take a walk along the great roundabout to see the column from all sides, have a little chat with Otto von Bismarck and then head down to the former royal palace where our President resides. Yes, we do have a president as well even though hardly anyone knows about him. From the palace we will take a stroll down the Spree river, have a look at the Tiergarten and a somehow failed housing project for government employees and see the memorial for the Institute for the science of sexuality opened by Magnus Hirschfeld in 1919. Hear the story about its rise and demolition before we end our tour at one of the strangest architectural creations in the centre of Berlin – the pregnant oyster. Weird to say but it was once one of the most American buildings in West Berlin. Find out why on this tour, see you soon.
