Western Islands by Boat

About the tour

Mark takes you on his boat through the Western Islands with its 1600s warehouses and beautiful small wooden drawbridges. He gets a friend to drive so he can concentrate on camera work and talking about what is going by. These islands are a real hidden gem, almost overlooked by time as they were cut off from the city by the railway lines built in the 1800s. They are a sleepy enclave, right in the centre of the city but hidden away and there is no better way to see them than by boat. There are so many interesting views of houses with jetties and little parks backing straight on to the water, invisible from the street. The old warehouses of this area have been renovated and repurposed into apartments with glorious views over the canals of the islands. Not only houses, but classic old barges find new life here. Mark worked on some of the old barges moored here and will explain the mechanics of those when you pass by.
